Most people think that they think. However, very few people actually do real, deep, meaningful, and smart thinking that accomplishes great things and results in superior advantages.
So, how do you do real, smart thinking? Here’s how:
Write it down on paper. Don’t worry about getting it perfect, just get it down. Once it’s down, then you can refine it, correct it, alter it, clarify it, and perfect it. Which is exactly the point. An idea or thought in its infant state is too fuzzy. By putting it down on paper, you remove the ambiguity and develop clarity.
Once it’s on paper, then search for as many answers to the following questions as possible:
- What patterns are there?
- What relationships are there?
- What distinctions or differentiations are there?
- What are some other ways to organize it?
- What other perspectives might there be?
- What’s missing or should be added?
- What should be removed?
If you think about it, the above process is exactly what book authors do. It’s no wonder our society considers authors to be “experts”.
Granted, it doesn’t make sense to write a book on everything you want to think about, but by applying a scaled down version to important things that merit and warrant smart thinking – it won’t be long and people will start viewing you as “smart” and an “expert”.
Why is this important?
This is important because people who are “smart” and who are “experts” attract greater money and better opportunities than other people do.
People who have more money and better opportunities can do more in the Kingdom of God.
