Are You Guilty of These Two Loves?

Here's the first love that will break you...

Proverbs 21:17 – “He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man

If you “live for the weekend” – you love pleasure.

If you find yourself constantly buying “trinkets” and “doo-dads” and “stuff” that you don’t really need but it makes you feel good to buy them – you love pleasure.

If you constantly go from TV to videos to the movies and back to TV – you love pleasure.

Are there other pleasures that you find yourself loving – that are causing you to be a poor person?

Here's the second love that will ruin you...

1 Timothy 6:10 – “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

We can either love money or we can love God. It’s impossible to love both. Matthew 6:24 tells us this, “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Here's the problem. When you love and want and crave money above all else, you are on a track to absolute ruin. When money is your first consideration and God, family, or people are your second consideration, then you are on a track to absolute ruin.

Think of it like this. Throughout the entire Bible, we get repeated glimpses of God's unfathomable wealth, riches, and splendor. But, no where in the Bible will you find anything about God loving His wealth, riches, and splendor.

What you will find over and over is that He loves people.

He loves you.

He wants you to love Him back.

And in fact, it’s when you and I love God above all else that everything else will start working for us.

Consider these two key verses:
  1. Romans 8:28 – “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God
  2. Matthew 6:33 – “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Make sure your love is focused on the right thing - on God!
